ShareOnVibe @GWAVACon EMEA

IMG_2450_cropLast weekend, GWAVACon EMEA rocked the Van der Valk Airport Hotel in Duesseldorf and we were part of it!
Apart from our own sessions, we got to see a few Novell sessions and some partner sessions too, but this time around we also found enough time to network and to meet some of our friends and partners.

InetraShareOnVibe’s distributor inetra de was present, too, and at their booth, customers could get up-to-date information on our Firefox Add-on.

SOV@GWAVAConOur session with SkyPRO, titled “Pimp my Vibe”, raised some excitement, because we unveiled a preview and pilot of our new product that enables you to send SMS messages and faxes directly from Vibe forms and from workflows! Using this Vibe extension, ShareOnVibe makes it possible without modifications to send a SMS or Fax directly from Firefox by using the ShareOnVibe function ‘Share Thought’! In building the SMS and fax functionality, we have teamed up with SKyPRO and the combined prototype was presented to an interested audience.

Outside of the session, we demonstrated the functionality to key Novell personell and partners and again, the response was overwhelming! Considering the feedback, this new product will definitely have a bright future and we hope to see a release soon.

What do you think about this new product idea? Let us know your thoughts!

Meet us at N-AWS or at GWAVACon!

This fall, there is a bunch of conferences coming up – and at the following ones, we will be present:

This year, we chose to visit the N-AWS, a conference for IT administrators and users. It is organized by the data centres of the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and the University of Leipzig and takes place in Leipzig on September 18th and 19th. There, we will share our experiences with Novell Vibe for educational institutions, so if you’re interested – take a look.

Of course, we will also be at the GWAVACon, an international conference on building, deploying or maintaining IT solutions by using technologies from e.g. Novell, Microsoft, GWAVA, held from September 28th to 30th in Duesseldorf. And the good news is – we’ll be giving a lab and a roundtable, so stay tuned.  As soon as we know more, you’ll get all the details.
Furthermore, you can find our distributor inetra at its exhibition stand. More information on GWAVACon can be found here.

So if you decide to stop by, we’ll be happy to see you!

Plan your Summer Vacation

Especially before holidays, you do a lot of internet research to make the best out of your vacation.
You look for information about your destination at the tourist office website, via Google, or you search specifically for hiking trails, restaurants or jet ski rentals and after a few minutes, you probably lose track of all the opened tabs and accidentally close the one with the interesting information.
ShareOnVibe can help you to keep track of all the possibilities for activities and background information on your destination. While surfing, select the relevant text passage or page, right-click and share it into your private folder.
The information is available at any time from anywhere – just use the Vibe app on your mobile device to find the nice little café at the seaside or the most interesting sights of the city that you have researched in advance.

We wish you a pleasant vacation!

Use Cases of ShareOnVibe

Today we are happy to present to you another use case of ShareOnVibe:

Create your own knowledge base

At work you sometimes have to research the internet to find the solution to a problem. Instead of just reading and following the instructions given in expert forums and online documentations and having to do the same research again next time (or keeping the solution to yourself), you can create your own knowledge base with information snippets found in the internet. That way you can draw on the saved information at a later time or help your colleagues to solve the same or a similar problem by themselves, e.g. while you’re on vacation.

By selecting the relevant text and sharing it into a blog folder with ShareOnVibe, you can easily create your own knowledge base in Vibe, showing all the important information in one blog, with one blogpost for each information snippet.

In your target folder, the selected text is displayed together with the title of the website and a link to the website the text originates from.

But don’t forget to share the blog with your colleagues – so you can avoid being called on your mobile phone for help during your vacations ;-).

You can find this and more use cases here.

Novell Vibe at LMU Munich – A Success Story with ShareOnVibe

We need a more efficient method of collaboration than email can provide. Like most modern academic institutions, LMU Munich is keen to explore new ways of sharing knowledge and supporting learning through the effective deployment of IT systems.

(Dr. Werner Degenhardt, Academic Director and CIO at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at LMU Munich)

Novell’s latest Success Story describes how LMU Munich uses Novell Vibe,  Vibe Desktop, the Vibe Add-In and ShareOnVibe by Code and Concept to enhance staff and student collaboration, make administration processes more efficient, and enable students and academics to share information easily.

This is a story not only about Novell at LMU but also about the valuable cooperation with Code and Concept, an experienced service provider and long standing Novell partner:

ShareOnVibe saves students and researchers considerable time in finding and storing information – and avoids desks cluttered with sticky notes!” said Dr. Degenhardt. “We work with Code and Concept because they provide us with smart solutions – like ShareOnVibe – to real-world issues, rather than just implementing another piece of software.

Open Horizons Summit Wrap-Up

We had a really good time last week at the Open Horizons EMEA Summit in Budapest! It has been a fantastic event with a great selection of hotlabs on the schedule. One of the main highlights was certainly the official announcement of Novell Filr availability in one of the Novell keynotes. Filr is a professional file sharing solution for enterprises that offers mobility and security.

ShareOnVibe by co3-tools, a sponsor of the OH Summit, was presented in a hands-on Partner Hotlab called “Get to Know ShareOnVibe – an advanced introduction by the creators”. The hotlab attendees could try out their OH Summit edition immediately, and prove the productivity booster for Novell Vibe.

In addition, we spoke in two well received Collaboration Hotlabs about Novell Vibe that covered topics like fitting the platform to your requirements, finding your company’s killer use case, or creating and setting up Landing Pages in Vibe. Our hotlabs were well-attended and we want to thank our attendees for the positive feedback!

Would you like to make a guess who won the GroupWise Troubleshooting Contest? Yes, it is Team ShareOnVibe – thanks to Giggi, Tommy and Patrick who joined our team and got the prize!

It was fun meeting everyone from the Open Horizons community at the summit and we had a fantastic time in Budapest!

LAB P05: Get to Know ShareOnVibe – an advanced introduction by the creators

ShareOnVibe by co3tools is a browser add-on that lets you drop information directly into Vibe from your browser – no more copy and paste of text, no more download and upload of images and files from the web into Vibe. You can share not only web content, but also drop your thoughts and tasks into Vibe in less time than it takes to write them down – finally the virtual sticky note is here! The brains behind co3tools will show you how to get the most out of Vibe with ShareOnVibe
and your personal use case. The participants of this lab configure their own full 1-year version of ShareOnVibe to take home for boosting their Vibe productivity!

LAB C06: Vibe – Landing pages

Landing pages are what your users will see of the Vibe environment. This session will take you through tips and tricks for creating these windows on your system. You have a shiny new installation of Vibe. How do you get your users and teams up and running as quickly as possible? How do you easily build flexible and workable Vibe spaces? You’ll set up landing pages and create team and project workspaces to meet your organisation’s specific needs.

LAB C14: Fitting Novell Vibe to Your Requirements – find your own special use cases, and get started!

Often, it is hard to find the foot that fits the shoe. Vibe is a great tool that offers a lot of hidden gems besides landing pages and forms. In this hands-on lab, the guys from Code and Concept will help you find the killer use case for Vibe in your organization and show you the best way to approach the solution not only with the great functionality of Novell Vibe, but also with the whole ecosystem of Novell Vibe, GroupWise, Data Synchronizer, Vibe Desktop, the Vibe Add-In and ShareOnVibe. The Vibe part of these solutions will be built live in this lab.
